Infinity Scarf

I am still working on using up my small yarn stash. I have one ball of this pretty purple variegated yarn from Deborah Norville. I was going to knit a long scarf but I couldn't find anymore of this yarn at the store so I turned it into an infinity scarf. It was just the right length for it. 

Scrap Quilting and Knitting

Happy Friday! This is going to be a very long post. I've been trying to get as much sewing and knitting time in as I can to use my stash up a bit. I buy a ball or two of yarn here and there for certain projects but didn't get to them so now to use it up I started making small projects. I knit whenever I sit down at night to watch one of my favorite shows that we DVR. This ball of yarn is supposed to be variegated but it wasn't like other variegated yarns I've bought before. The striping is quite different as you can see from the photos.

Getting Some Knitting In

As I was going through to organize my crafty things, I found full skeins of yarn for some projects I was wanting to make last year. Since this year it's all about using up stuff I didn't want to buy anymore yarn. I decided the best way to use up stuff is to make a project that only uses what I have on hand.

Knitted Scarf

A couple of weeks ago I started on this crochet infinity scarf. The yarn was from a sock project I was supposed to work on but the sock came out all funky. I ended up ripping it apart because socks are really hard for me. I'll have to do that another time. Since I didn't use this yarn for the socks, I wanted an easy project to use it up. I've made this crochet scarf before because it's a quick project to whip up.

Handmade Gifts

Hope your weekend is off to a great start! I am still camera-less. I took pictures of these scarves before my camera got sent away and haven't been able to upload it until now due to computer issues. I am happy my computer is working, just don't have my graphics stuff but a working computer is such a relief. I made these two scarves for DD. She loves scarves and blue, hence the blue scarves.

Infinity Scarf

How are you doing with all your Christmas shopping? I am almost done. I am throwing in a bit of handmade this year. It's been quite fun making them. I'll share some after Christmas. Onto my project that I recently finished.
I bought some yarn last year to make a project but never got around to it. It was sitting on my craft table and I keep having to move it around so I finally got tired of that and sat down to make something out of it.

Crochet Beanies and a WIP

I have been trying to use up my leftover yarns and thought I used most of it up until I started re-organizing my things. I found a tote bag full of small balls of yarn : { I was so happy when I thought I only had a couple of full skeins left. I got to work to come up with my own pattern and made some more beanies. These two will fit an adult or teenager. I did make a baby one, but forgot to take a picture of it. 

I had a teeny bit of this yellow and green yarn left to make a small flower for the beanie.  The pattern for the flower came from the Lion Brand website. I made hubby a beanie with this yarn also. Now we have matching beanies :-)

This is my WIP. I love this color combo from Deborah Norville's Serenity line. Just my kind of colors. I am making a scarf which will pretty much match with a lot of things in my wardrobe.

Ok, so this is what I do when I take  a break from sewing. BTW, I have been sewing up a storm and I hope to release a new pattern by next week.

More Baby Hats

I pulled out some more of my leftover yarns and whipped up these little baby hats. I got all of these done in one day. I am getting pretty fast at it. I finished all these in one day. I love the cotton ones the best. They feel so soft. I only have one more ball of yarn but it's a dark blue so I am going to make something else instead. I am almost done using up all my yarn. I only have 4 balls left. YEAH!!! It feels so nice to use things up. Now if I could only use up a lot of my fabrics I would be SEW happy :-)

Baby Hat

It's nice to be home after being gone for a few days. I'll share those pictures over the next few days. In my previous post I was talking about the service projects I went to. I am finally able to post the crochet hat I did. This baby hat was really super quick to put together.  I think this is for a preemie. I think I whipped it up in 30 minutes. 
If you would like to make one, this is how I did it. 


Row 1 -chain 31, then double crochet in each chain to the end. 
Row 2 - Chain 2, double crochet in each double crochet. 
Repeat Row 2 for a total of 12 double crochet rows. This will give you a little room to roll the bottom of the hat up to act as a brim. 
Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Sew up the sides to create a tube, then sew up the top of the hat and pull it tight to close. Tie off.


If you would like to make this for a larger child, the lady in charge of this project (BTW is a wonderful lady), said to chain 60 and make it as long as you would like.

Here is my finished baby hat. I am going to make some more to donate. I have a bunch of yarn I've been trying to use up and this would be a great project to do.

Sew Crafty Linky Party

While I was taking a blogging break I didn't do much sewing but towards the end I felt I needed to create something, just anything to keep my mind off things. I told hubby I need some creative therapy time so I sat down and made this little zip pouch for my little one to keep his change in. 

During times when I am in the car or watching tv late at night, I would do some really simple knitting. I am trying to use up some yarn that I have laying around. This little neck wrap is made using one ball of Lion Brand Fun Fur and one ball of Red Heart soft yarn. I am going to buy a pretty pin to use it as a closure when I wear it. I had some extra yarn leftover so I made a small baby beanie with a flower to go with it and gave it away before I  took a picture of it.

Finished Socks

I am so happy to finish my first pair of knitted socks. Susan was so awesome. She e-mailed me directions on how to knit the gussets. Unfortunately I made a mistake on my foot length so it's about an inch short. Maybe one of my girls can use it. I will have to knit some more. Once I got the hang of knitting the gusset, it was really easy.

Scarf Pattern

This was a scarf I made last year.  I had a request for the pattern recently but I couldn't reply directly so here is the scarf and I got this pattern from the Bernat website. The yarn is by Bernat also. It is called the Keyhold Scarf and you have to sign up to access their site. Bernat has a ton of free patterns to choose from. I would post the instructions on here but I am pretty sure it's a no no so go check out their site, you won't be disappointed.

Knitting

I am editing this post. It was too long and drawn out for me after I read it again. I was learning how to knit socks and I found out my stitches are twisted so I got some help at my local yarn shop and now it looks nice and straight. I am stuck at the gusset so I'll have to go back to the yarn shop to get some help with that. I am determined to make some socks this year. It's not that bad with these two circular needles. I get to finish two socks at once.

I had to practice getting my stitches straight so I chose this pattern from KnitPicks. The pattern is called Fishtail Lace Scarf. I love the lace pattern but will have to use a finer yarn next time so the lace would show up better.  

Crochet Dishcloth Tutorial

These dishcloths are really quick to make. If you crochet and would like a quick gift to make, this would be it. I made these using cotton yarn and a size H hook. If you are not sure of the size hook for the yarn you're using, there is a guide on the wrapping.

I don't like huge dishcloths so these are the perfect size for me. If you like them larger, increase by a couple of stitches. Test out a couple of rows to make sure it's the size you want.

Crochet Dishcloths

Supplies:

Cotton yarn - One small ball gives me two dishcloths.

Crochet hook size H

Chain 26

Double crochet in second chain from hook, dc in each stitch across.

Chain 2, turn. Double crochet in each stitch across.

Repeat above row until you get a nice square piece. Weave in ends.

Simple Beret

How about another simple beret? This is all done with one simple crochet stitch. I did this all in one sitting that's how easy it is. Like my lampshade? It's been very useful to put things on to take pictures of since I don't have a model to help me.

Crochet Beret

I have been crocheting since my sewing machines have to be serviced. I bought this variegated brown yarn from my local yarn shop for this beret. I love this yarn because it's a chunky weight and I can crochet this beret in no time. I love the lacy pattern but I am not keeping it. It's going to my friend. She loves hats of every kind and wears one every day. That's all for today. Have a super day!

Crochet Floral Hot Pad

How about a crochet hot pad to share today? I was looking at Creative Jewish Mom's website and saw a crochet hot pad she made. She directed viewers to the pattern for it. I found it at Free Craft Unlimited. I did pretty well until I got to the part where it says to fold the petals. See my first picture? I couldn't get it to fold right. Finally my husband tried it, still not quite right. I almost gave up folding, but then I just decided to flip the petals around instead of folding like the pattern says. It worked! If you go check it out and look at the picture in the pattern, the fold is not going in the same direction as mine. I am left handed and sometimes things turn out the opposite way.

This is how it's supposed to be folded, but I must be missing something, because it's not quite as full as the picture in the pattern. I'll have to try again later to see how it turns out.

Knitted Scarf

I have not had much time to do anything in the way of sewing lately. I have a bunch of projects that needs to be done this week for my friends so it's keeping me busy. I will post as soon as I finish. In the mean time, I have things that I've made that I've never shared. This one is a scarf I made using Joann's Angel Hair yarn. The yarn is so soft and easy to work with, you can whip up this scarf in no time at all. I am sorry I can't recall what the pattern is but I kept thinking I got it from The Purl Bee. I really love this pattern, but I can't seem to remember where I put it. I need to find it so I can make some more. I'll post the pattern name when I get a chance to organize my knitting supplies. It's got to be in there somewhere.

Scarf and Earwarmer

Is it earwarmer or earwarmers? My friend asked me to make the scarf and earwarmer for her so she can use it when she rides her bike. I got it done last week. Yesterday I helped our daughter teach the young women in our church how to crochet and brought this with me to show them what they can created with some simple stitches. Okay, the flower does not belong on her earwarmer or scarf. I made it and put it on so I can take this picture. It is removable. It was an experiment I did with yarn to see how the flower would turn out. I think I like it. It's different than what I've seen.
About teaching the young women, it was alot of fun. I do enjoy teaching them crafty stuff. The poor girls, they were having a hard time at first and it doesn't help to have a lefthanded teacher either, but then they finally got it. I was trying to show them a double crochet stitch because I figured it will build height faster but that was not a good idea so I had them do a single crochet stitch instead. That went well I thought. I am off to do some sewing for our daughter's fundraiser. I need to add more variety because right now it's mostly greeting cards. I finally got alot of it listed on Art Fire yesterday. If I don't blog for a couple of days, it's because I am busy working on fundraising stuff and will post when I get a chance. I have never ever done a fundrasier like this. I've only helped out with food fundraisers so it's kind of different. Food....hmmmm, that's a thought. I think I am going to brainstorm with my bestfriend since she's the food fundraising queen. She always manages to get everything donated by businesses for any type of fundraising. Ok, gotta go, have a SUPER day!
