Hands 2 Help Quilt

Hello Monday! It's been quite a busy time for me the last few months. I apologize to those I did not reply back from your kind comments. I appreciate the time you take to leave me a comment. It's just been so stressful with school and finals were a killer. I was able to squeeze in this quilt just under the deadline for Hands2Help. I also had some machine issues and was going to quilt this with my domestic sewing machine.

A Little Detour

I posted about the Postcard from Sweden quilt along that I was going to participate in and was using the solid fabrics from my stash. I had it all cut out and had sewn half of the blocks then put it away because it was late.

Hands 2 Help Plus HST SAL

I had thought I posted this already but I didn't see the post live so I went to check and somewhere along the way all the content was gone and the post was in draft. That's what I get for rushing. In my defense I had homework deadlines to finish and a high schooler to pick up. Ok, this year I am going to join Sarah and make a quilt for charity. I had a quilt kit that I was going to use but in the process of "cleaning and organizing" I can't find it.

I am going to use these prints if that quilt kit doesn't show up. I bought these prints years ago when my children were little and along the way they received many quilts from me but not in these prints. I don't know what I was saving them for but they really need to be used up.

Pillowcases

Happy Wednesday! I've been working with our DD to finish up her Young Women's Personal Progress book and this is the last of it. She's been working so hard and I am so proud of her for completing this wonderful program. I hope that she will take what she's learned and carry it throughout her life. 

On this project we were going to make a quilt and donate it but she wasn't feeling it so we decided that pillowcases would best but she couldn't make just one. She had to fill up the time so we started by planning, choosing fabrics, prepping and cutting everything so she can start sewing. Poor thing, it took her forever to iron out all the wrinkles from years of being stored in my stash.

More Baby Hats

I pulled out some more of my leftover yarns and whipped up these little baby hats. I got all of these done in one day. I am getting pretty fast at it. I finished all these in one day. I love the cotton ones the best. They feel so soft. I only have one more ball of yarn but it's a dark blue so I am going to make something else instead. I am almost done using up all my yarn. I only have 4 balls left. YEAH!!! It feels so nice to use things up. Now if I could only use up a lot of my fabrics I would be SEW happy :-)

FNSI Finishes

I finished these two pillowcases last night and was hoping to get the pictures taken earlier this morning to post, but didn't get a chance to. We just got back a little while ago and I am so glad it wasn't dark so I could get a good picture of these pillowcases. These pillowcases will be going to the folks at Conkerr Cancer first thing Monday. I am so glad I participated in Friday Night Sew In to make these pillowcases. They are so quick and easy to make. I whipped these two up within 30 minutes. I think I am going to be making more real soon :-)

Baby Hat

It's nice to be home after being gone for a few days. I'll share those pictures over the next few days. In my previous post I was talking about the service projects I went to. I am finally able to post the crochet hat I did. This baby hat was really super quick to put together.  I think this is for a preemie. I think I whipped it up in 30 minutes. 
If you would like to make one, this is how I did it. 


Row 1 -chain 31, then double crochet in each chain to the end. 
Row 2 - Chain 2, double crochet in each double crochet. 
Repeat Row 2 for a total of 12 double crochet rows. This will give you a little room to roll the bottom of the hat up to act as a brim. 
Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Sew up the sides to create a tube, then sew up the top of the hat and pull it tight to close. Tie off.


If you would like to make this for a larger child, the lady in charge of this project (BTW is a wonderful lady), said to chain 60 and make it as long as you would like.

Here is my finished baby hat. I am going to make some more to donate. I have a bunch of yarn I've been trying to use up and this would be a great project to do.

9 Patch Block

I made a couple of these 9 patch blocks that I donated to Bren. She is putting together a scrappy 9-patch block to raise money to help with medical expenses for Isla. You can read about it here on Bren's blog.

Pillowcases

I managed to squeeze in some sewing time to finish these pillowcases for Carol when my children were watching a movie. I have my sewing cabinet set up behind our couch in the family room so I can sort of watch along as I sew. I think this arrangement is working out pretty good because I've been able to just sit and sew more than I usually do.

I finished sewing the bottom and side seams together and left them on my ironing board to come back and press them so I can do finish the cuff.

Here are the pillowcases. I made 6 of them. I just bought 1 yard of each print  so I can make 2 pillowcases out of 2 yards of fabric. I'll make a tutorial to share after I finish my SIL's bag.
