Yankee Puzzles Blocks

I have been making the Aurifil BOM for each month and loved it, but this month's block was a bit different for me. I appreciate modern quilt blocks and all but I just wasn't feeling it with the November block. I remedied the situation by making a couple of Yankee Puzzles blocks instead.

Aurifil BOM and New Quilt Along

I've been trying to get caught up on my Aurifil BOM in between other sewing obligations. This is the second block I made for October's block. I reversed the color order from the first one that way when it's time to put all of my blocks together, they would work.

Sewing and Quilting

I am a bit behind on my Aurifil BOM blocks. I manage to sew this month's block and it still took me two days to do one block. I am glad I got some sewing in though.

Aurifil July BOM

I've been able to get a lot of sewing done lately. One of the things I was wanting to do this month is getting my Aurifil block done. While my family was away with church activities I sat down and finished these two blocks.

Court House Lawn

This is going to be a really quick post. I took a bit of time out and pieced together the Court House Lawn block from the Fat Quarter Shop's Wishes Quilt Along block 7. This went together very quickly. Sure glad I got some sewing in. I've been playing with my new toy but still haven't worked the kinks out on it. I need to adjust some things before I start sharing on the blog. 

Aurifil BOM May and June

I took a break from sewing the Wishes Along BOM to catch up on Aurifil's BOM. I am only two months behind. As always I made two of each block and keeping with the purple theme. This one is Amy Smart's block called Nine Patch On Point.

Wishes Along Blocks 4-6

 I'm thinking it's going to be a busy week for our family with our son finishing school this Friday so I will probably schedule my posts over the next few days. I have been taking a bit of time here and there sewing these Wishes Along BOM blocks.
This is block #4 called Broken Dishes. I had to make sure I orient the half square triangles properly otherwise it wasn't going to look right. This is a really quick block to put together.

Wishes Along Prep

I have been busy working out quite a bit for the last 2 months. It's been a grueling day everyday, but golly so addicting. Who knew exercising was addicting? I haven't seen the weight drop that much but I am losing inches so it's a good thing. Now if I could only stop eating sugary foods, I could see that scale go down quicker. So, you're thinking, what does all this have to do with sewing? Well, nothing, just sometimes the important things in life come first so it doesn't leave much time for sewing.  Since I don't have a lot of time to sew, I decided to take what free time I have and cut out all of the Fat Quarter Shop's Wishes Along BOM blocks. After I finish cutting out all the pieces, I used large clips to keep them all together. I have to confess, I have been naughty. I was able to download all of the instructions for this BOM including the finishing instructions. 

I am not going to ruin the fun anticipation of waiting for the new blocks to be uploaded, so I won't be giving instructions to download the whole thing. I have already lost  misplaced all of my pretty great-granny blocks that I did so I seized the opportunity to get this done in a timely manner so I don't misplace them ;-D

Aurifil BOM...Bear's Paw

I've had a really busy month and wasn't able to quilt as I would have liked. It is a good busy though. I received my Leftover quilt back from Sue but didn't get a chance to put the binding on. I will get that done in May for sure. I am so behind on all my sewing that for the next couple of weeks, that's all I will be doing to catch up. I managed to squeeze in time today to sew the Aurifil BOM blocks. 

Wishes Along BOM

I am finally caught up with my Wishes Along BOMs. I don't know how it was that I was so busy last month. I don't like getting behind on things because I am afraid I might not be able to finish if I put it off. Now with February and March's blocks, I used up the excess pieces of fabrics and triangle pieces from January's block. I didn't want to accumulate too many scrap pieces. The larger half square triangles I cut out a template to use up the scraps. I hardly had to cut off the larger fat quarter pieces so that's a good thing.

Aurifil March BOM

I sat down and finished my Aurifil BOM called Borders by Emily Herrick. I downloaded the pattern when it first went up on the Aurifil blog and started cutting away. As I was cutting I had a feeling that some of the measurements where off, but I didn't listen to myself. I continued cutting.

Aurifil February BOM

February, where did you go? It's the end of the month tomorrow and I still have some projects I would like to finish. I really don't want to get behind on the BOMs that I am participating in this year. This is Aurifil's February BOM called Mother's Day. I pulled out my stash of purple fabrics and started prepping the pieces yesterday.

Wishes Along Flying Kite

I am really excited about some of the BOM programs going on this year. When I first saw the Fat Quarter Shop announcing the Wishes Quilt Along I knew I wanted to join in. This month's block is called Flying Kite.

Aurifil January BOM

I hope you all had a nice and relaxing weekend. I did some sewing Saturday, ran errands and enjoyed a movie with my family. As I resolve to sew more for me I decided to participate in some BOM programs. One of them is Aurifil's Designer BOM series. At first I was going to use a fat quarter bundle of fabrics from Sweetwater but then with all the purple fabrics in my stash I felt I need to use them up. I have had these fabrics for years. These fat quarters are just a few in my stash. There are larger pieces in my cabinet that's not in this picture. The background fabric is an old RJR print called A Hint of Spring. I am going to use one purple print for each block and hope that I have enough of the background fabric for everything, if not I will just throw in another light background fabric. This quilt is going to be full of purple fabrics. 

As I was cutting out fabrics for my block, I thought wouldn't it be nice to double these blocks so I would have a larger quilt when it's done. I figured I wouldn't have enough of the printed background fabric to use so I am going to make two blocks with the same purple print and switch up the background so that it will balance out once the quilt top is put together. 

When I was sewing my corner squares I drew a second line 1/2" away from the first line the pattern called for and made 1 3/4" half square triangles instead of throwing away the little triangle pieces after trimming off the excess. I am going to save these little pieces and see what I can put together after this BOM is done.

This is the original background for this spool block I was working on.
