Summer Photography

Happy Monday! Summer has pretty much come to an end for us since school started already. Each year we spend a lot of time at the beach swimming, boogie boarding and surfing or me just enjoying the sun and sand. I also love taking photos of my surroundings. This flower was taken during one of our outings to the zoo. 

February One Monthly Goal

I have been working on my En Provence quilt and so far I've only finished nine blocks. This quilt takes a bit more time than I had planned but I love how it's turning out. This month's OMG would be to finish the blocks and put the quilt top together.

AGF and An Outing

Happy Monday! It's been a while since I've posted. I have been pre-occupied with a lot of things. One of the things I am needing to work on has to do with these beautiful fabrics. I had a design in mind but now I think I might need to change it up a bit to highlight certain fabrics. I can't wait to get it done.

Quilting Photography

Hello There and Happy Monday! Our youngest went back to school today. I was going to get up and take a photo of him before he left for school but insomnia kicked in last night so I couldn't get up this morning to take a picture for his first day of school, but I did tell him I love him and went back to sleep for a little longer. I shall take his picture after school so it will still count as his first day of school. 

After much needed rest, I got up and remembered that Plum and June is doing a photography link up so off I went to grab some fabrics and did a bit of a photo shoot. 

When it comes to taking pictures, I always shoot in Manual Mode. I decide on what my ISO setting I would like to start with depending on if I'm indoors or outdoors then I tweak it a little and take about 3-4 photos after that. I haven't done any editing to these photos besides cropping them. 

This bright fat quarter bundle is by Malka Dubrawsky called Simple Marks Summer for Moda fabrics. As you can see it is very vibrant and for me it's a bit difficult to make sure I get the colors just right. I adjusted the settings to see what works best and go from there to get as close a match to the actual fabrics as I can. This photo was taken indoors in front of my sliding glass door with a bit of natural light coming in.

Done with a white background as the setting requires a bit of an adjustment on my camera. I have to be carefully not to change my settings too high or it will look all washed out.

This Bali charm pack is mostly red. It is really challenging for me to take photos of anything red. I find that if I take photos early in the morning when it's still overcast I can get a pretty good picture and the red is pretty true to color. This one is taken outside underneath my patio.

These Hometown fat quarters are by Sweetwater for Moda fabrics. I took this picture under my skylight. I started out with an ISO of 800 but that was a bit bright so I changed it to 400 and I think it works great for this photo.

I went outside and placed these fat quarters on my red bench. I had to change up the settings a bit to balance the colors of the fabrics against the red bench.

As you can see from the backgrounds I used that the camera's settings need to be changed to compensate between a lighter and darker background.

I hope you've enjoyed this workshop. I am not a professional photographer. I just love taking pictures and messing around with my camera. All together I took 19 photos with various camera settings. These were the best ones without editing. I try to do as little editing as possible. When I do need to edit, I use Picasa and I also type up my watermark in Picasa. I like Picasa because it's quick and simple to use.

Botanical Garden

Happy Monday! Our kiddos are home from school today since it's a holiday. I haven't had my camera for 2 weeks and you know that's like an eternity when you take pictures often. So excited to have it back last Friday. After  I picked up our oldest from school we went to Balboa Park because I was wanting to test out my camera to make sure everything was working just right. The Botanical Garden was open so we went in to take some pictures of the beautiful flowers there.

Sunset

I don't have anything quilt related to share with you today. I am still trying to get some more of my Great Granny blocks done. In the meantime I thought I would share with you this beautiful sunset picture I took right in my front yard. I do see lots of pretty sunsets outside my door. It's amazing at times the colors that I see.

Flowers

I don't have anything sewing/craft related things to show you right now. I have been sewing though. Mostly the TATC because it's going to be a gift for a lady in my church. I thought I would share these flower pictures I took when we went to help out with a Scout project. These flowers were all along the Hamilton Museum. It was a house that was converted to a museum. While hubby and our kids were helping out, I went around and took these pictures. All in all, it was a fun day with friends.

Spring Blossoms

Happy Monday!

Over the weekend I had to go and get work done on my computer because it was shutting down my programs. While I was at the mall I took the opportunity to take pictures of these beautiful blossoms from the trees along the walkway. Spring is only a few weeks away but these trees are already blossoming. Spring always come early for us since the weather is pretty nice year round.

Did you catch any good movies over the weekend? We went to see Red Tails. We really enjoyed it. Hubby actually met one of them at the Navy Exchange when he was there Friday. This gentleman showed hubby proof that he was one of the original Red Tails.
