I really enjoy the process and finishing a quick project. Thinking of turning these into patterns. What do you think? I’ve missed designing patterns. Maybe it’s time to get back to it.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeHQJ95Kv5EM_9lBF2amPdXk82GzXjVdCJRwovJHLKzD-8u2xdI8wSXbmy_uY399CKDyFnBLPvWp1ncMBnALvuMgyegv5xDlDyx_k5jqTPZvf-VSaYBBdGLzeg48R3b7l_5j0TFzo7IMMb_vdQcAb27S-lRVXh_232ob5ooJXIZOVzkPljle7hZ27n/s2000/CA57EA75-0130-492E-86FF-952AB1895443.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1763" data-original-width="2000" height="353" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeHQJ95Kv5EM_9lBF2amPdXk82GzXjVdCJRwovJHLKzD-8u2xdI8wSXbmy_uY399CKDyFnBLPvWp1ncMBnALvuMgyegv5xDlDyx_k5jqTPZvf-VSaYBBdGLzeg48R3b7l_5j0TFzo7IMMb_vdQcAb27S-lRVXh_232ob5ooJXIZOVzkPljle7hZ27n/w400-h353/CA57EA75-0130-492E-86FF-952AB1895443.jpeg" width="400" /></a><span><a name='more'></a></span></div>The process of designing and testing is calming for me. One of those are bowl cozies. At first I had such a hard time but as I work the kinks out it’s been quite easy to make. I also want to make sure that the padding is thick enough to protect the hands of those who will be using them.<span><a name='more'></a></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I was able to finish these up in a couple of days. This vinyl is a little different than what I’m used to. I decided to use foam and boy it was stiff. I really could have just used decovil light and it would have been sufficiently stabilized, next time. </p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikMWHha8jocPel1jllglrXW9E75AV6iKtNPVs2jQhjtJHgu4FR13giZvrZEZStk6a0a5h8PMnKLkLKJFQAi4Y2RnJ75YIi7Lt4iQjkYP-mXVu9Hi-_uL54RJ6RareEKDpm_0dIQ39Kt61PiD8G0qh8OTKiI3H0GGnYvJbgY-wgGihJgZtOo-NyMfRv/s2400/DE99B9E2-708F-4B48-873E-3BBD1A873BAA.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2400" data-original-width="1723" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikMWHha8jocPel1jllglrXW9E75AV6iKtNPVs2jQhjtJHgu4FR13giZvrZEZStk6a0a5h8PMnKLkLKJFQAi4Y2RnJ75YIi7Lt4iQjkYP-mXVu9Hi-_uL54RJ6RareEKDpm_0dIQ39Kt61PiD8G0qh8OTKiI3H0GGnYvJbgY-wgGihJgZtOo-NyMfRv/w288-h400/DE99B9E2-708F-4B48-873E-3BBD1A873BAA.png" width="288" /></a><span><a name='more'></a></span></div>I also added a zippered closure and pockets for better organization. I used waterproof canvas to line the bag. I am a big fan of fusible fleece and foam interfacing depending on what I am sewing but with canvas I decided to put some decovil light to the test.<span></span></p><a name='more'></a><div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjK_LCXxekERUto1r4v32VVfQZJ5uLu11x3b975PJUTH7mFGtHoPNM-3mYpvPnjocVRVmDVryARJU7205yXdEgt6Z_KQLNnR6CT4sviuBwlhzjuOTZxhi37wAJm7HmcbXTMTcpszhUZnqN8vGuqXyWsN3zK4hp-X2YT0pNL-IOp_YfMjvhvEI65-5k9/s2284/938405F9-E386-4CB5-9E12-DB417962338E.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2284" data-original-width="1800" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjK_LCXxekERUto1r4v32VVfQZJ5uLu11x3b975PJUTH7mFGtHoPNM-3mYpvPnjocVRVmDVryARJU7205yXdEgt6Z_KQLNnR6CT4sviuBwlhzjuOTZxhi37wAJm7HmcbXTMTcpszhUZnqN8vGuqXyWsN3zK4hp-X2YT0pNL-IOp_YfMjvhvEI65-5k9/w315-h400/938405F9-E386-4CB5-9E12-DB417962338E.jpeg" width="315" /></a></div><div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;">I drafted this pattern up because it’s summer and I really needed a bigger beach bag than my previous patterns I did. I interfaced decovil light all around the exterior and decovil heavy at the bottom of the bag. I also did the same for the printed fabrics in the hopes of giving it some structure. the lining I also interfaced with decovil light. Keep in mind that usually foam would be all that I would need even when I sew with vinyl or cork. It was a struggle to turn. I had to ask my children to help me turn the bag since it was pretty stiff.</div><div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;">My take away from this is that although I love Decovil light it is not for interfacing waterproof canvas. Makes it really stiff. On the other hand, although this bag was heavily interfaced, it didn’t stand up on it’s own, maybe because my bag was really big. It makes an awesome beach bag due to the bag being mostly waterproofed. I don’t have to worry about the interior getting wet. It’s really nice and roomy with six exterior slip pockets, 3 interior slip pockets and a large zippered pocket. </div><p></p>Kimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04634366044408740241noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8644598985124828178.post-80028367358948463552022-03-09T12:45:00.000-08:002022-03-09T12:45:00.190-08:00Sewing Label GIVEAWAY<p>I have been thinking about this for a long time and I think there’s no time better than the present to move forward. They’re so quick and easy and really makes it more fun to use napkins. They are also a great scrap buster. I’ve made them as small as 7” square. I finally did some sewing for me! I made a sample just to make sure so I didn’t add pockets or hardware to it but I really like the simplicity of it. It’s a keeper. I needed a bag that would fit my iPad and other essentials for me to take to church. My other bag was a little too small. I was also wanting to test out some new interfacing to reduce the bulk to see if it would still stand on it’s own and have some body. I’ve been hoarding cork fabric for a long time so since I have so much of it I thought it would be fitting to pair cork and canvas together.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjkpZjObHjnyaZWBxaHU_A05DMieUCIf1K-xnIgHHcoULQhiuyTM18JPS3YWQc8N_9Y-TJYztc8QvU8B5FrZF2Zeh0WCsuA4W3RSvktJjaqGcLxYV1ZbkXuO7tM42TVqhnwCeXM5sWYgUmt8cVOQrvWFXSeu8FK6zfUzsCgBG-FDmc8cDV20foSueNv=s1080" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjkpZjObHjnyaZWBxaHU_A05DMieUCIf1K-xnIgHHcoULQhiuyTM18JPS3YWQc8N_9Y-TJYztc8QvU8B5FrZF2Zeh0WCsuA4W3RSvktJjaqGcLxYV1ZbkXuO7tM42TVqhnwCeXM5sWYgUmt8cVOQrvWFXSeu8FK6zfUzsCgBG-FDmc8cDV20foSueNv=w400-h400" width="400" /></a><span><a name='more'></a></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I started out by cutting all of the materials to the size I think I need. The interfacing was cut a little bit smaller to prevent it from making the seam too thick to sew through. Luck would have it that I had one long brown zipper so I decided on a zippered closure. In keeping with reducing bulk on the seams I added my straps below the zippered area. You don’t know how many times I really wanted to add some rivets to jazz it up, but I didn’t since I was testing out the materials. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEi8bNgUDCgOBXkzQeaN02MA4C1pz7CDjbCCsW7xWj4DUcCB-GmwQ5gly4QkPTQwWeoGVLmfyOVTtwXjyjju7skHXmEFzBkRd6wojsoLU42DlZ9ygJCAAq20B2VuPIOEmSriJUX-pAF-R-zNVcQq7V94IK8tkXcFvrxHSxC5-FZpexIJqx5vk-EzZIyv=s1080" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEi8bNgUDCgOBXkzQeaN02MA4C1pz7CDjbCCsW7xWj4DUcCB-GmwQ5gly4QkPTQwWeoGVLmfyOVTtwXjyjju7skHXmEFzBkRd6wojsoLU42DlZ9ygJCAAq20B2VuPIOEmSriJUX-pAF-R-zNVcQq7V94IK8tkXcFvrxHSxC5-FZpexIJqx5vk-EzZIyv=w400-h400" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></div><blockquote style="border: none; margin: 0 0 0 40px; padding: 0px;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The cork and canvas went through my machine just fine. The Christmas fabric is flannel and the lining I used cotton. I washed them all the night before so they were ready to go. These were an absolutely quick sew project. If you don’t have flannel you can always use cotton. I like two layers for absorbency and I like the weight with the double layer of fabric. I chose to sew these then turn them right side out but you can also serged the edges and skip the turning and top stitching. </span></p><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgXmkWdvRTIdSoP3pJUK1Y75MqjKmVZLEWfdnegeGcEv0u6F3NfBRETergzwtypkEspRfJ7r6A6PpD8E8cC9PNaBoBIwC0A7b0XHBwkWn2qq31oKdftGU2ZCvzYGNKdMHCxa0bz7GwitSx9VuEU8FfFjNcZMiUVhNtQ5ITJ8jIFA55GX0HlvqsSya4z=s1080" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgXmkWdvRTIdSoP3pJUK1Y75MqjKmVZLEWfdnegeGcEv0u6F3NfBRETergzwtypkEspRfJ7r6A6PpD8E8cC9PNaBoBIwC0A7b0XHBwkWn2qq31oKdftGU2ZCvzYGNKdMHCxa0bz7GwitSx9VuEU8FfFjNcZMiUVhNtQ5ITJ8jIFA55GX0HlvqsSya4z=w400-h400" width="400" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: helvetica;">I also realized that we needed new Santa hats. I went to the store and bought some Sherpa and no-pill fleece to ship up some hats. I was aiming for fur for the band but there was no white fur in sight so Sherpa was a good choice. I measured my husband’s head and dusted off my serger to work on these. the Sherpa was so thick my poor serger had a hard time but it worked out great. the seams are nicely finished inside. I took the easy way out and cut off the pom poms from the old hats to use since I could not locate my polyester filling. It worked out really well and Santa was very happy with his new hat. </span> <div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgcEfvMzyKbh2cIg1jeNIXUFccr1cuOBTuXB2nnLwnPiscTCx3IfSup7VzmsvTrPmPYPoF9A2TrR_U4qe_1VgNn_fQNpHvyQmjRsXz4SVfwFPAVRQ_GBZ1GStJJpkbgMsuhugHzsSfmmjvbyxnTSKoGIJ8rQRMjJhgTdx4Rpm5mzv4Q3XCOyMMnb3H4=s2892" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2892" data-original-width="2186" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgcEfvMzyKbh2cIg1jeNIXUFccr1cuOBTuXB2nnLwnPiscTCx3IfSup7VzmsvTrPmPYPoF9A2TrR_U4qe_1VgNn_fQNpHvyQmjRsXz4SVfwFPAVRQ_GBZ1GStJJpkbgMsuhugHzsSfmmjvbyxnTSKoGIJ8rQRMjJhgTdx4Rpm5mzv4Q3XCOyMMnb3H4=w303-h400" width="303" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">If you would like tutorials for these I’d be happy to create them for you. It’s Fall and that means time to pull out Fall fabrics from my stash to make a couple of large zipper pouches. These are so much fun to make and can be used to organize your essentials or use as a large clutch. I tried a new to me material for the lining. I ordered some waterproof canvas to see how well it would sew up and let me just say, it's a breeze to sew.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmXw2CgTN_hiE2m9Cd7yCuVfXLmgYyc8mEacw00Dz-9VY2gQv6Lr7hplvNrdzfDT-T9U2uI_W4w8Xkdeywq9ULb-mCm6fVkYnn1MDxvir4XjJCF8U9qoybuwHILnPiMazZ9P16OX_mPMc/s2048/498B1D2E-762F-44CA-A7B6-9F6BB08D8069.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmXw2CgTN_hiE2m9Cd7yCuVfXLmgYyc8mEacw00Dz-9VY2gQv6Lr7hplvNrdzfDT-T9U2uI_W4w8Xkdeywq9ULb-mCm6fVkYnn1MDxvir4XjJCF8U9qoybuwHILnPiMazZ9P16OX_mPMc/w300-h400/498B1D2E-762F-44CA-A7B6-9F6BB08D8069.jpeg" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I used my normal 90/14 universal needle and my normal presser foot. I didn't realize it has been quite a while since I've blogged. We went through a very stressful time last year with a move that we were not expecting. For a while we didn't know if we were going to be able to find a place to live. The rental market in So. Cal. is ridiculously high and not many houses to rent. We finally found a place towards the end of last year. The move was so rushed that four months later we are still unpacking and figuring out where everything is and goes.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
During this time, I was working a lot so I wasn't able to help as I would have liked. I am still working long hours hence not a lot of quilting going on. We have been carving out bits of time to go and spend time together as a family as much as possible. Recently due to the rainfall in So. Cal. the poppies were blooming like crazy in Lake Elsinore. It littered the hillsides as we drove up the 15. The super bloom even made it in the national news and they called it the "Poppy Apocalypse". I have lived here for many years and this is the first time I've seen the poppies bloom like this.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The traffic was horrible getting into the canyon but once there we were able to quickly find a good parking spot hiked up the canyon to look at the blooms and take photos. It is just amazing to see all the poppies in one place.</div>

I also was able to get my son's Eagle Court of Honor done with a lot of help from some wonderful people. I took his t-shirts and made a t-shirt quilt for him so he can have something to remember all of the adventures he went on during his scouting years. I'll share the whole quilt as soon as I complete it. I haven't been able to get to my quilting machine because there are all sorts of stuff piled on the quilting table. </div>

Hello! It's been a while since I've been able to post on here. It's been busier than usual, but a good busy. Today I am sharing this beautiful quilt called Layered Cake Custard form the <a href="http://fatquartershop.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Fat Quarter Shop</a>. This pattern is a part of Fat Quarter Shop's Shortcut Quilt series. This was super easy and quick to put together.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4RlRf4enVCT4wgl4FiCh5Ny1F8omDHLjU3WzxP0khH_wdbcgp1KCDZRBhriuN1IYwa18jRaBJfnyu2SJRxvoIh1ZgCBoYnKs2T176Kn2UT7s4QwKfIRL-PMwGbD68rzH6rvmTpzNilHc/s1600/layered+cake+custard+quilt+closeup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="760" data-original-width="570" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4RlRf4enVCT4wgl4FiCh5Ny1F8omDHLjU3WzxP0khH_wdbcgp1KCDZRBhriuN1IYwa18jRaBJfnyu2SJRxvoIh1ZgCBoYnKs2T176Kn2UT7s4QwKfIRL-PMwGbD68rzH6rvmTpzNilHc/s1600/layered+cake+custard+quilt+closeup.jpg" /></a></div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It is a nice twin size and only takes one layer cake and some extra yardage for the frame, backing and binding. I didn't complete mine because I wanted to make it into a bed size quilt at a later time. The fabrics I chose was from Flamingo Toes for Riley Blake Designs. I chose the fabrics because it's so nice and cheery. You can get this free pattern over at the Fat Quarter Shop blog. There is also a video tutorial to go along with the pattern. </div>

Well, it's time to break them out and use them. Today I am sharing my bag that I made using the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83T5IReuXbk&t=401s" target="_blank">La Conner Tote</a> pattern from Jeri Brandvig. You can find the free tutorial on <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83T5IReuXbk&t=401s" target="_blank">YouTube</a>. The pattern calls for 4" squares, but I just didn't want to cut down all the charm squares plus I need a new beach bag.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgb-PdeOF4FI_6KPEvIsnMCn9BoyGZPQfC5lKlqc1Jvs4GQyGjt65T9Yf8fcMaKw8UAUh9ZZiLhrmjsTd5pxvYnCrnOb5QFMTGeUKGKFic8NI_TcT-5o7FYvbHIckWRNZt4DbvOxbjPqyg/s1600/la+conner+tote+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="428" data-original-width="570" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgb-PdeOF4FI_6KPEvIsnMCn9BoyGZPQfC5lKlqc1Jvs4GQyGjt65T9Yf8fcMaKw8UAUh9ZZiLhrmjsTd5pxvYnCrnOb5QFMTGeUKGKFic8NI_TcT-5o7FYvbHIckWRNZt4DbvOxbjPqyg/s1600/la+conner+tote+3.jpg" /></a></div>
<a name='more'></a></div>
<div>
I started out by laying out the charm squares and seeing if I need to change out the placement on some of them. When I was happy with how they all look, I took pins and pinned each row together that way I don't lose my placement. From their I started assembly line sewing each row together. I had two charm packs so the front and back panels are the same. I had some fusible foam laying around so I used that instead of the non-fusible foam. It was so much easier to use.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfPMmLLLFHrhGils993ntHNFXFpth2ecZcvq77EUEmJaPbcc1AjeFflICgdWusgZELD9misY3CgZD_3PGhrkGzCnvpMF5ZczPA6tCaOFCCVdQd4adfV4_zfLCzGrCfDYCjZ-ypCDsn-Kc/s1600/la+conner+tote.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="570" data-original-width="570" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfPMmLLLFHrhGils993ntHNFXFpth2ecZcvq77EUEmJaPbcc1AjeFflICgdWusgZELD9misY3CgZD_3PGhrkGzCnvpMF5ZczPA6tCaOFCCVdQd4adfV4_zfLCzGrCfDYCjZ-ypCDsn-Kc/s1600/la+conner+tote.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
The other thing I had to decide on was whether I wanted to quilt the panels. At first I just didn't feel like it but something was nagging at me so I just decided to go for it and get the panels quilted. I am really happy I did it. The panels look so much nicer with the quilting. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJn94_d0tJ2BqaTkJ0MFO7MV604EJyAUVcrV_hFwAoI6Xbn1VCNOR3nDX7eVYn0BpDE3FPkz-1-esFDg29wc4vyN2DlM7jr7RloTYTs_7Kxc6s2Utg6LKcPz-MNqebIZGUbYzvdMLEQeU/s1600/la+conner+tote+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="529" data-original-width="570" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJn94_d0tJ2BqaTkJ0MFO7MV604EJyAUVcrV_hFwAoI6Xbn1VCNOR3nDX7eVYn0BpDE3FPkz-1-esFDg29wc4vyN2DlM7jr7RloTYTs_7Kxc6s2Utg6LKcPz-MNqebIZGUbYzvdMLEQeU/s1600/la+conner+tote+2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I added four large interior pockets plus a slot for pens. Nothing like digging for your pens when you need them. The other thing I did was added a magnetic snap to keep the bag closed. This bag turned out to be 23" wide x 15" tall x 5.75" deep. It will make a wonderful beach bag.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I needed a total of twelve fat quarters for this quilt. The binding is AGF's Round Element in Grapefruit. I'm plugging away at my scrappy quilt for a new quilt along. Way back when I started my quilting journey this block was called the square in a square block, now pretty much everyone knows it as the economy block. Some names just catch on and stays that way..lol. Can't with to be able to share the finished quilt with you!</div>

I am participating in a quilt along coming up this month. Here's a peek at some of my blocks. I love snowball blocks. They're super quick and easy to make. You can't go wrong. I chose a fabrics from a few different Art Gallery Fabrics fat quarter bundles. These are from the Fusions bundles. I love the vibrant colors and beautiful prints. I'll be sharing another peek before the final reveal.</div>

It is really simple and quick to put together. I didn't feel like trimming the flying geese blocks so I cut everything I need for it into triangles. I bought these adorable bear prints to make a quilt for Christmas when my children were really young. I fussy cut the center squares to keep the full image of the sleepy bears. We still enjoy this quilt every year at Christmas time.

Happy Humpday! Today feels like Spring, sunny and I could hear the birds chirping in my backyard. Come tomorrow, it will be rainy and cold again which is always nice because we need the rain here in So. Cal. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have always wanted to make a boxed pouch so when my girls were organizing my scraps I thought it would be nice to pull a couple of the larger scrap pieces to make one. I was looking through some tutorials and what I found had unfinished seams on the interior of the pouch and zig zagged/overlocked to keep the raw edges from fraying. I don't like unfinished seams so I set out to make one with the seams all finished like a bag.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiX4vpU6_HgX-4JAX2uWwZICXsPVaoy0WrlII16K3y8lfQXrCtDjY2CBcYfoKmtqkcnlSxyYkQlfaGdBCzlDMMoaUODBk7rAjzLAUAjyRXhYH82E5pLWa02tXiNaTYVuBaAzBUqusi_P4o/s1600/boxed+pouch+fabric+selection.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="428" data-original-width="570" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiX4vpU6_HgX-4JAX2uWwZICXsPVaoy0WrlII16K3y8lfQXrCtDjY2CBcYfoKmtqkcnlSxyYkQlfaGdBCzlDMMoaUODBk7rAjzLAUAjyRXhYH82E5pLWa02tXiNaTYVuBaAzBUqusi_P4o/s1600/boxed+pouch+fabric+selection.jpg" /></a></div>
<a name='more'></a>I did make some mistakes along the way and this pouch has all my mistakes in it. As you can see it's a square, that's mistake number one, although I thought it was cute. It was supposed to be more rectangular. Mistake number two, DO NOT interface the pull tabs. It gets too thick to sew and not necessary. Mistake number three, I forgot to include the handle that you see in the photo above, but that really isn't necessary either, more of a preference. I think that's all that I didn't get quite right. The reason it's square is because I wanted a taller gusset and didn't account for it in the measurements. I am pretty sure the next time you see my boxed pouch, it's going to come out exactly as I had planned. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
All in all, I think my mistakes turned out a pretty cute and tiny pouch that is perfect to hold those binder clips. I love these clips, you can get them pretty inexpensive in the scrapbooking section of your local craft store and there are so many pretty colors to choose from.</div>

On the other side of art, I got my foot done by daughter using henna. I am not into tattooing and my daughter had a bunch of henna that she needed to use up before they expired so I volunteered. As long as it's not going to be permanent I am ok with it. She did an awesome job with this Alice in Wonderland theme. I just love the fun whimsical side of it. </div>

Happy Tuesday! I have been having so much fun using my scraps. <a href="http://sewnbyleila.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Sewn by Leila</a> created twenty paper-pieced blocks and I have been saving to use some of my scraps. These blocks are so quick and easy to piece. I did cut the fabrics a little bit larger than what the pattern calls for.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This was supposed to be scrappy, but I had to have some sort of order so even though it's scrappy the colors would help to pull each block together. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVwbAU_t91oe6GUldepcd6iesiLw8QvOCmbc_QsJu2kn-zKtsMHFlYXJexUaX3-nr_zoiu6P8241JTpfT88_webrMxg5qbmKwOSkG2ew0F1VoPn6BZKVv7AHhyphenhyphendGhg3IJbJNopVfmnSME/s1600/block+7+8+9+year+of+scrappy+triangles.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="574" data-original-width="570" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVwbAU_t91oe6GUldepcd6iesiLw8QvOCmbc_QsJu2kn-zKtsMHFlYXJexUaX3-nr_zoiu6P8241JTpfT88_webrMxg5qbmKwOSkG2ew0F1VoPn6BZKVv7AHhyphenhyphendGhg3IJbJNopVfmnSME/s1600/block+7+8+9+year+of+scrappy+triangles.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As you can see, I have ALOT of pinks and yellows. I was trying to find some purples and blues but I don't have much of these two colors. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am going to squeeze in some time to sew more blocks large enough to make a queen size quilt. I don't have a clue how I want the blocks laid out yet. I'll have to think about as I go along. If you would like to make these scrappy triangles you can head on over to Leila's blog and grab all twenty of them.</div>

I have been saving all of the scrappy triangle patterns from <a href="http://sewnbyleila.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Sewn by Leila</a> so I can work on them in between <strike>work</strike> obligated sewing and school. I have been trying my best to use my scraps just to hopefully whittle them down and hopefully use them up, but as always they keep on growing. These scrappy triangles have smaller pieces which is great for scraps.</div>

Now that I have all twenty patterns, I can start sewing away. My daughter sorted my scraps by color a while ago so it was easy for me to pull out a bag, press and start cutting according to the instructions. The background print is from Art Gallery Fabrics. I am going to use them up before I start on a different background print. </div>

Some of these scraps are over twelve years old. I remembered the floral print above was in 2002 when I drafted up my first pattern. I still have that quilt today and the pattern which I pulled from my shop a few years after I published it. I believe the green prints below were used for some bags.</div>

The orange and yellow prints are from Moda, Riley Blakes chevron and Joel Dewberry's Heirloom collection for Free Spirit fabrics. This is my all time favorite collection from them and it's sad to see that Free Spirit fabrics will no longer be available. The fabrics from this collection was what I used to make bags and small accessories with. Just love the prints!<br />

More orange and yellow scraps. I have ALOT of yellow scraps. I am going to knock of the first twenty blocks then I will start making duplicates to turn them into a really big quilt. Sewn by Leila has the total number of blocks you need to make for various quilt sizes.</div>
