Scrap Quilting and Knitting

Happy Friday! This is going to be a very long post. I've been trying to get as much sewing and knitting time in as I can to use my stash up a bit. I buy a ball or two of yarn here and there for certain projects but didn't get to them so now to use it up I started making small projects. I knit whenever I sit down at night to watch one of my favorite shows that we DVR. This ball of yarn is supposed to be variegated but it wasn't like other variegated yarns I've bought before. The striping is quite different as you can see from the photos.

I was a bit surprised but since I had bought it at my local yarn shop, I didn't want to return it so I made this chevron scarf. It took me about three weeks because I am a slow knitter and only knit when I sit down to relax in the evening. I thought I had saved the pattern but after scouring the internet for it to reference it on my post, I could not find it. I've seen similar ones but not this so I am going to give the pattern instructions here. I've memorized it so it was easy to knit away. BTW, the bowl I used was one made by my daughter a couple of years ago. She made a mistake and turned it into something you can use to pour but it has come in very handy for me to hold those pesky little yarn balls so it won't roll away as I knit.

Here it is all finished. I love the chevron ends. I used my iron with steam to block the scarf. It's much quicker  and I don't have to wait for it to dry.

Size 4 needles

Fingering/Sock Yarn

Cast on 62 stitches

Row 1: K1, *K2 tog, K5, YO, K1, YO, K5, SL1, K1, PSSO* repeat from * until one stitch is left. K1

Row 2: K1, P until there's one stitch left, K1

Repeat these two rows until you get the desired length. Bind off and weave in ends.

I stopped when I finished this one skein.

On a sewing and quilty note, DD and I have been trying to work on our projects. She's still working on her red and white scrap quilt. I think it's more of an improv quilt because she just takes all various sizes of scraps and just starts putting them together trimming as she goes. This is only the second quilt she's done. When she was little, about seven or eight years old along with my younger DD we each made our own lap size quilt. The girls sewed the blocks together and I would finish the quilting for them. When that was done we then made blocks for the Memory Lane quilt that I put together. You can read more about it here. This scrap quilt came to be because DD was making a small panel for school using my scraps but she couldn't get herself to cut it up after she pieced it so she set it aside to make a large quilt later on. This week she was determined to finish it and she's coming along pretty well. She's had to cut into my stash because there wasn't a lot of red prints left to use. We will go shopping for the backing fabric because she doesn't want a scrappy backing. 

On my end, I've been working on the Flora Sew Along and my OMG. At first I wasn't going to add leather but the more I thought about it the more I wanted to incorporate it into this project. Once I had the leather pieces cut I couldn't decide what I would like to turn these pieces. I also need to choose my lining fabric and how the lining will turn out. I am going to make up my mind and get these done before the weekend is over.
