RUSH HOUR Blog Hop...My Turn

Happy Tuesday! I am so excited to be joining this RUSH HOUR blog hop put together by the best cheerleaders around, Mdm. Samm and Carol. I had the opportunity to use this beautiful bundle of fabrics from Studio E. This is a beautiful mix of fun modern prints.

As I think about RUSH hour and what I would really like to design to make life easy for me as I am always in a RUSH these days. Everyone in my family are in high school or college and I need to have something that will take me through my busy days. I must have a planner to make sure everyone gets to where they need to be. I wanted to make the red print pop so I used the black and white prints for the background then added the red flower on top. The flower is machine appliquéd to make it a quick project.

I used the ribbon that Studio E used to wrap their lovely bundle with as a bookmark. It just looks nicely pulled together.

I have never really made a bag for myself that I could use for everything but when I saw these fabrics it was time for some selfish sewing. I started drafting up the pattern and the measurements that I need. The requirement was that it be sturdy, roomy, lots of pockets big and small, fits my camera and laptop should I ever need to have them both with me. I also need to be able to wear it crossbody so my hands could be free to juggle other tasks. This was the final result and let me just say that there was a lot of pain involved. I got pricked quite a few times pinning but it was so worth it!

This is the full length pocket in case I want to have my laptop on the front of the bag. I added an accent to the pocket using one of the red word prints. I did not have larger pieces so I used this black and white print I had in my stash for the exterior of the bag and shoulder strap. I think it worked out very well.

The back has a full length zip pocket and it's also large enough to fit my laptop comfortably. During the process of making this bag which I've named Ruby, I have learned how to sew the zipper pocket in a whole different way. I wanted it to have all the raw edges enclosed like what you would see at the department stores so I thought about it and thought about it. Made a test run and it worked! I love how I can see things in my mind and make it happen.

I had to squeeze in one more project with these pretty fabrics. This is the Bloom Zipper Pouch. This one was quick to make. I like to use zipper pouches to organize my cards, money, receipts, cell phone and other knick knacks.

I will have the planner cover pattern available shortly after the hop in my shop. The planner cover fits any 5x8 size planner/calendar.

A BIG thank you to the good folks at Studio E for the beautiful fabric bundle and Mdm. Samm and Carol for putting this wonderful blog hop together. You're all the BEST!

i Love details and the little flower on the zipper pouch caught my eye. It was the detail that made your zipper bag stand out! The bag looked SEW well made and again, I'm so jealous of all the bags you girls are making! I wish I could have you stand beside me and walk me through the process. Tutorials are not as helpful for me...I need 3D.
Nicely done!
