Red White and Blue Blog Hop

Have you all been checking out the blog hop? The blocks I've seen are amazing! Today is my day to share with you my red, white and blue block. I love the dresden plate block but don't really get around to making it so this was the perfect opportunity to make one. I haven't decided if I would like to turn it into a small quilt or make something I can use often. I really liked how this turned out. I stitched everything down by machine so it made the process go quite fast. My block turned out to be 10 1/2".

I had quite a bit of small pieces leftover from cutting the dresden plate so I made another block. This block is for Lori and Jodi's great granny along. You can find the tutorial here.

I also made a zippered pouch. I am really trying to use up small pieces as I go so I don't end up with a ton of scraps laying around. I came up with this pattern based on the sizes of the scraps I had leftover.

BTW...I didn't have much red, white and blue fabrics in my stash so I had to run out and buy some. These fabrics are by Denyse Schmidt. I love these prints. They are so pretty.

I'd like to thank Diane of Jane's Fabrics and Madame Samm for putting this blog hop together.
Be sure to check out all the ladies on today's blog hop for more red/white/blue inspirations.

Hi Kim, Congratulations. I like the way the centre of the Dresden Block is the background. Who doesn't love granny squares? Then the zippered pouch. Thank you for sharing your RWB.
p.s. do you have any Scraps or do you always use them up?

I love your dresden plate block. And I agree that using up the smallest pieces is interesting, and often give you a great result. Your little pouch is sweet, too.

Hi Zuzan,

I don't think I have a lot of scraps. I only have one drawer full of scraps. Once I made a scrappy queen size quilt but it didn't seem like I used up much. I didn't' even put a dent in that scrap pile so it's best to use things up as I go along.

I hadn't heard of the Great Granny Along until I read your blog. It doesn't seem to matter how many blogs one reads (and I read a lot), you still miss something. I like your blocks very much and especially love the idea of using up the scraps right away. I should begin to do that.

Love your Dresden and Great Granny blocks...those Great Grannies are soooo addicting...great choice of fabrics...you can't have enough Denyse Schmidt fabric. I like your idea of using up your small scrapes as you go, that is something I will have to try to do!! I'll have to try a zippered pouch, just have to get past the zipper... Thanks for the inspiration and sharing in the RW&B blog hop. Have a terrific Thursday!!
