Happy Friday the 13th! I am excited to bring you another fun Fat Quarter Shop quilt along and this time it's a Jolly Braid Tote Bag. I've never done a braid quilt before so this was something new that I was wanting to try.
I used the Creekside Jolly Bar from Sherri and Chelsi for Moda Fabrics for my bag. I love the beautiful saturated prints from this collection. I had to use a walking foot to quilt the braid panel because of the thickness of the interfacing. This was how I was able to get nice straight lines. I quilted the braids one inch apart and the side panels 3/4" to account for the seam allowance.
This is such a nice size bag, love it! This is the other side of the bag.
The bag does not have a closure or pockets so I modified it and added a magnetic snap closure, a zippered pocket and a couple of slip pockets, which is not shown. I love pockets to organize my things and a place for my phone. Now I just need to add a zipper pull.
Be sure to check out the Fat Quarter Shop's blog for more inspiration and grab your pattern. You can also watch the video tutorial on YouTube.

Braids are great aren't they? though they do waste a little fabric. i came here from whoop whoop. Your braid is so bright!
This turned out lovely! Looks like a nice size to haul things around in.
This is a great pattern. Your rendition is really cute. Love the added pockets and closure. That is a must in my book too!
Very pretty bag. I love the design pattern and fabrics.
You did such a beautiful job on the bag and adding a zippered pocket and magnetic closure was a great idea. Thanks for linking up with Elm Street Quilts Bag It.
