Denim Dress

Hello Monday! Today I have a special sewing project to share. DD has been learning how to draft sewing patterns. One of the projects she needed to draft was a dress pattern. These are some of the pieces she did.

She had a deadline to get her dress done so we stayed up till 4 am to get all the sewing done. She chose this beautiful denim from Art Gallery Fabrics to use for her dress. Although this denim is heavy it was perfect and drapes beautifully. This dress took 3 1/4 yards with the fabric being around 58" wide. Anywho, I had her cut all the pieces out and serged all of the raw edges.

Then it was onto sewing the pieces together. All I had to do was instruct DD how to sew the pieces together. The hardest thing for her was the neckline, invisible zipper and combining the top and bottom together to form the dress but she did it! I am so proud of her for persevering. This has turned out to be one of her favorite dresses in her wardrobe.

She stated that although the fabric was on the heavier side it's still nice and comfortable enough to wear for Summer. This photo was taken on Father's Day and our weather was a bit over 80 degrees. I love the drape in this photo.
