I've finally finished this garment. I have done buttons before but only one at a time so this was definitely a challenge, but once I got going it was actually quite fun. To recap on this shirt, I used this stripe print from Sarah Jane Studios. I believe this line is retired, but I am sure you can still find them in various online shops. I also added a red Kona solid for the collar to give it a contrasting look and break up the stripes.
The sleeve tab is also in a contrasting red Kona solid. The back of the shirt I changed up the direction of the stripes to give it a different look. It's more fun this way then everything all going in one direction. The back also has two darts to give the shirt shape.
Now, here is what I am working on at the moment. The Esme top is from Sew Liberated. I am using this 30's print that I've had in my stash for years.
This is the front all gathered and sewn together. I'll talk more about this once I post the finished top.

Very, very nice work on this shirt. I do love the stripes and the red contrast. Great job!
Your shirt looks so professional! I LOVE the Esme top pattern (I haven't seen it before) and am looking forward to seeing your complete top. Your chosen fabric is lovely! I am working on a Tova top - in ugly fabric first just in case I mess it up (which I already have!!).
I saw those beautiful stripes and had to come take a look! I love the shirt you made, every little detail of it. And it is sewn impeccably. I have been far too nervous to try sewing clothes, but I'm trying to get my nerve up. The pattern you are just starting is one that I would love to try. As in it would be my first choice. I really love it! (I feel like searching for the striped fabríc you used just because I love it so much. You really did do the fabríc justice. A great shirt!)

Excellent job! I have yet to attempt a woven (and button down!)shirt ~ my hat is off to ya!
Happy sewing ~ Tracy
Nice shirt; you've paid great attention to the details. I like the way you changed direction of the stripes in the yoke; men's shirts often have that detail, but your use of contrasting fabric keeps it ladylike!
Lovely finish! I kept thinking I'd like to make more clothing, but I'm not sure I have the patience. Thanks for linking up with TGIFF!
Great looking top Kim! Very professional looking. :-) I love the next pattern and can't wait to see you modeling! Happy stitchin'!
Excellent choice of fabrics and they look so nice on you. Looks like the top fits you really nicely! Congratulations!
Great choices on the shirt. Looks great on. Keep the good work moving.
Seriously these shirts are just too cute!! Love the stripe one too!
You did a great job on the blouse.
You did a lovely job, Kim! Its been years since I sewed clothes - I loved sewing for the kids when they were growing up. I have long-legged, long-armed kidlets and always had to lengthen the patterns. I made a lot of little western shirts so I got good at buttons and snaps and yokes. I love the details you added to your shirt...its wonderful - well done!
