I really worked overtime to finish this quilt. I am so happy it's done and gifted. I used up quite a bit of fabric for this Scrappy Mountain Majesties quilt. The quilt finished at 60" x 70". I went with a scrappy binding to use the solids that came with this fabric collection (Moda Fabrics - Simple Mark Summer).
Doing so would create too many bias edges and that means fabrics could stretch along the bias. No matter how the block is sewn, there would still be squaring up and trimming to be done. I chose to mark all of my squares to make half square triangles then trim to size.
I didn't want to do my usual free-motion quilting on this quilt. I went to visit a longarm supplies shop to look for a pattern that was modern but not too busy for the quilting and I also needed thread. I chose Superior's 100% cotton thread in Cyan and the pantograph is Plaza by Lorien Quilting.
BTW...those points below required a ton of pinning. I don't recall having to pin so much on any project before but it was well worth it.
The solid backing was a challenge to photograph. This blue makes it hard to see the actual color so I tried in various spots before this color looked right. This is a Kona solid I believe it's turquoise. Not 100% sure because I couldn't find my receipt. I think it works nicely with the quilt top and the quilting thread is a shade lighter so the quilting shows quite nicely.
Love the back. This is a really fun quilting design. I am sure I will be using it again on another quilt.
Here's a couple more shots of the quilt.
