As we were putting up our Christmas decorations Thanksgiving weekend, we couldn't find our tree skirt. I remembered that it got washed and rolled up before being put away. I must have put it in a really safe place because we looked everywhere and still couldn't find it. I ended up making a new tree skirt for our tree. I drafted up the pattern and got to work. I pieced the backing using Kate Spain's In From the Cold fabric collection.
I managed to get this tree skirt done in two days, squeezing in whatever free time I had in between errands and other obligations. I haven't done bias binding in a long time so it took some getting used to again, but I have to say that it turned out great.
Since I was on a time crunch, I ended up stitching the binding on by machine. It really speed things up quite a bit.
This is what the pieced backing looked like after it was quilted and trimmed. I did not throw away the center cutout. I will have to share that later on since I didn't take a picture of it with this batch of photos. It's going to turn into a special something for Santa this year.

Your new tree skirt is beautiful! I think I need to make a new one for next year. Thanks for the inspiration! :0)
Did you use strips and a Dresden plate ruler? Beautiful!
Hi Kim - great job, it will look fab under your tree - I ran out of time to make us a new one for this year, ours is looking a bit dated...
I love your tree skirt. It has been a long time since I put up a large tree that needed a skirt. We live so far from my children and grandkids that I don't bother with one. We have a tabletop metal tree that we put pig ornaments on each year.
Very pretty. Makes me wish I had bout that Christmas fabric collection over the one I recently purchased.
This is a really pretty tree skirt. I have never done a bias binding but yours looks great. Sewing binding by machine does speed things up. And sometimes that is just what we need! :)
Your skirt turned out great!
Wonderful tree skirt, modern and Christmas all in one!
LOL - I think we all have things lost in "safe" places. Kim, your new tree skirt is very pretty - love those fabrics! Especially the cups of hot cocoa!
What a gorgeous tree skirt! Love the colours and the pieced backing. Will look fabulous under your tree!
LOVE the new tree skirt! That fabric collection is perfect for it and I love the design ~ congrats on getting it done so quickly!
That is nice! Merry Christmas!
Your new tree skirt is beautiful. I love the fabrics you used. The white around the outside really adds a lovely unifying touch to the whole tree skirt.
It's a beautiful tree skirt - I bet it looks stunning under your tree and I'm wildly impressed with your speed and rustling up a new one!
