Leftover Quilt Finish

I am so happy to finally finished the binding on my Leftover quilt. This quilt took four years for me to finish and it's all thanks to Sue. She did an amazing job with the quilting. Since the quilt was so big, I really didn't want to tackle it on my domestic sewing machine.

I pulled out some gold fabric from my stash for the binding. I cut the binding 2 1/2" as the pattern called for, but I think it's a bit wide. I prefer a tight narrow binding. I had to move my sewing machine to a larger table so it would accommodate the large size quilt.

I used a traditional binding method to prep the binding. After four years, I really wanted the quilt finished so I can use it on my bed.

I love rolling up the binding before attaching it to the quilt. It eliminates a big twisty mess that I used to have to deal with when I first learned how to quilt.

Sue custom quilted the borders with a feathers and piano pattern. It just makes the borders pop beautifully. Sue has lots of pretty pictures she took of the quilting on her blog. Click here to check it out. My quilt is at the lower half of the page. You can see the scrappy backing that I pieced together. If making the queen size quilt like I did with a scrappy backing, you will need to cut 25" squares.

Of all the scrap quilts I've made, I think this is my favorite. All those little scraps remind me of the other quilts that I've made over the years. Some were leftover from the baby and larger quilts that I made for my children and some were from gifts that I gave to family and friends. If you would like to make this quilt, the pattern can be purchased at Cozy Quilts. The pattern called for 2 1/2" strips but I used my scraps instead. I also made some smaller quilts with this pattern to try and use up my scraps. Lets just say, it didn't even make a dent in my scrap drawer.

Here it is all nice and pretty on our bed.

Such a pretty scrap quilt. I love the red border.. it really pulls the reds out of the design and adds a final pop. Lovely!
