Strippy Charm Pouch

I participated in Kris' pouch swap and made this zippered pouch using my pattern over at the Moda Bake Shop called Strippy Charm Pouch to send to my swap partner. I couldn't post until she received it. I had fun making the pouch. Can't wait to see all the participants' pouches.
BTW...I made a slight change by adding the swivel hook so it can be removed and I also added a thick jump ring to the zipper pull so it will lay down nicely when the clasp is attached. I didn't take a picture of the change.

New Pouch

I sat down to make a few zip pouches and was going along just fine until I finished. You see my label at the bottom left corner? I put them in wrong so I had to cut them all off the pouches. Once again this is the back side of the pouch. I love the pink and grey damask fabric. The fabric is from Michael Miller's line called It's a Girl Thing.

My pictures always look lopsided when I take them on top of the fireplace. I am starting to think that the fireplace itself is off. I'll have to ask hubby to measure it just to make sure.

Friday Night Sew In Results

I finished the projects I set out to do when I signed up for the FNSI. I was hoping to take a picture of it outside this morning but it's raining so indoors will have to do. Sorry about the pictures of the backs of these projects. I just can't show you the front but the backs still look really pretty.

This is a book cover I made using Joel Dewberry's Heirloom fabrics. I love the combination of orange and green.

What's a book cover without a bag to match? I think these are going to be my new favorite color combo. I was scouring my local discounts shop to find a mannequin to use for taking photos and finally found one. Now it's so much easier to take photos of my bags.

Blogging is Not Fun at the Moment :(

I don't know how to start this. I guess first off, I really enjoyed visiting other bloggers to see their work and it helps with inspiration. I love sharing what I create too and this is what makes blogging fun, being able to share and be inspired. I was checking out a a famous site, I shall not name names, and came across a pattern that was very very close to a bag I made for myself 3 years ago. I still have that bag today and wear it often. I did post my bag on my blog. Here's the blogging is not fun part. I know that as we find things that others have created we, alot of times are inspired to recreate that same thing which is fine, but to go and copy what we see and just make the handles shorter/smaller and piecing patterns a bit shorter/longer and calling it your own then go and publish it is not nice. I am feeling unsettled at the moment because even copyright laws don't prevent others from infringing upon other's work. Sometimes I share things before I even decide whether to write up the pattern and sell it or not and I suppose this is my fault for making it public. So with that said, I apologize to you my readers for having to pull a bunch of photos and some info off some of my posts. Whether some of my other designs have been copied by said person/company or not, I know it's a little too late but I feel better knowing that it's not floating around my blog for them to see.

I haven't stamped for quite a few months and needed a little motivation. I still follow some wonderful stamping blogs and happened upon a blog candy from The Stamping Boutique's challenge blog. Headbands

Over the holiday I made some headbands and it was a hit and they were so much fun to make. I am starting to accumulate alot of things so to support my crafty habit, I opened my Etsy shop for my handmade goodies. I was going to use my dot com site but it was getting too much for me to work on it so Etsy was the best way to go for now. I'll be listing some more items in my shop next week. I just need to go outside and take some good pictures.

Mrs. Perkins

I took our girls to our LQS about two months ago and our 14 yr. old picked out a couple of animal patterns she wanted to try and make. One of them was Mrs. Perkins from Melly & Me. She doesn't have much time when she's in school so over Christmas break I asked DD to choose fabrics she would like to make Mrs. Perkins with and she chose blue and grey kona cotton solids. I opened the pattern and there were no photos/illustrations. It was all written instructions. I am a visual learner, step-by-step photos are really helpful to me. I read the instructions and it wasn't clicking. First it called for 16" and 4" fabrics. To me it was like well, is it 16" and 4" square or a whole strip? I had to read and re-read the pattern before it finally clicked. Once I got the instructions down, it wasn't so bad. I made the templates for her then she did the cutting and sewing. Those horns are so small, I had a hard time turning them right side out. DD then decided that she doesn't like the eyes on the pattern and asked for buttons. I took a trip to Joann's to pick out the buttons and bought gray embroidery thread so she can finish Mrs. Perkins. I think she did a SUPER job with her first stuffy. Mrs. Perkins is adorable.

Now that we've made one giraffe, if she would like to make more it will be a breeze. Cute pattern. Next up will be Dilbert the dinosaur. We probably won't be able to make it for a little while unless DD is not swamped with schoolwork.

I have the original Cricut that I bought when it first came out. Never really used it as much. I got a bunch cartridges for Christmas and they look like alot of fun. Hopefully I will have time to make some fun things with them.

Happy New Year's Eve!!!

We're just going to hang out at home this New Year's Eve. We usually go out to dinner but we're going to cook at home instead. This whole year with all it's challenges has taught me to learn to relax and take it easy and I love it. It's so nice not having to rush around all the time and spending time doing things I love and especially hanging out with my family. We've had our ups and downs this year but through it all the Lord has blessed us with so much.

Hair Clips

These were some hair clips that we donated for Christmas to allow the parents to use them as stocking stuffers. I was so busy before the holidays and didn't have time to make them so I asked hubby to make some hair clips for me. I showed him how to make one and he went to town with the rest. He did such a good job with them. Maybe he can do it again next year :-)

These hubby used my fabric scraps and the Big Shot to cut out.

It sure was nice to have a crafting buddy for a short time.

Thimbleberries Sew In Part 2

I am so glad I posted my table runner because if I didn't, I would have realized my mistake. Thank you ladies for pointing it out. Can you just see the look on my face when I have to rip it out after I quilted it? PHEW!!!

I fixed the blocks and finished the snowflakes applique. I double checked the instructions and it is correct. The mistakes were all me. This is what happens when I sew late at night and I always do because that's when everything is quiet in our home.

Thimbleberries Sew In

A while back I worked on my Thimbleberries Snowflake table runner but wasn't sure if I wanted to add the snowflakes. Now I think it should be on the table runner.

I went to Joann's to pick up some fusible webb. I pinned the template to the fabric and cut them all out. That was a mistake. I haven't applique in a while so I really wasn't thinking. I should have place the fabric onto the fusible webb, trace the template then cut it out. It would have saved me some extra cutting time.

Here they are, all cut out. Now I've got to put them onto the fusible webb and cut again.

I have appliqued the snowflakes onto the table runner and it is quite late. I'll take a picture after I get home later in the morning and post.

Day After Christmas Shopping

I got up early (8:30 am) this morning and went to Target to pick up some wrapping papers for next year. We finally finished ALL of our wrapping paper that I bought 14 years ago. I went hog wild because they were $.25 per role. Now it's all gone. It sure was fun to buy new ones.

I also stopped by my LQS and bought some Christmas fabrics at 40% off. I bought more than I planned to, but I really don't have alot of Christmas fabrics in my stash and I have plans to complete a Christmas project each month next year. I guess you could say "Christmas Through the Year" for me.

Mission Impossible:Ghost Protocol Review

Recently I was contacted by MyBlogSpark to review the new Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol in IMAX.

We took our family to go see it. The movie was full of action and adventure. Tom Cruise was amazing and comical as Ethan Hunt. His team had to go undercover after the IMF is shutdown to complete a mission and clear his team's name. His team is faced with numerous challenges when trying to complete this mission. This movie keeps you on the edge of your seat and makes you laugh at the same time.

We love the IMAX experience. The sound and the overall picture was awesome!

We really enjoyed Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and highly recommend it. Grab a friend and go check it out!

More Headbands

I pulled out some fat quarters that I've had for a long time and made some more headbands. I am not keeping these. They are going to a good cause and used as stocking stuffers. I made them reversible so the girls can choose whichever side she would like to show. These headbands are SUPER quick and easy to make, they are quite addicting.

This is the other side of the headband. I made a wallet with these fabrics for one of our kids and had enough leftover to make 5 headbands.

Fabric Headbands

I have lots of fabric scraps and so I sat down to make this headband. I only made one so I can see if I need to change anything before I make more. The headband and flower was really quick to make and the flower took one 2 1/2" strip of fabric. I created some pleats before I made the flower. It's permanently attached to the headband. I am going to make some more flowers and turn them into hair clips so I can use up the hair clips I bought a few months ago.

I love to read blogs I subscribe to, but it's getting really frustrating getting hit over and over in one day with like 10 posts from the same site. Even if I have time to do 10 posts in one day, I wouldn't because it's over kill. I know I don't have to read it, but just looking at the number of posts from this site as I scroll down to see what's new with everyone else's is bothering me. I would like to stop following this site but it has turned into a .com and there are no links to stop following. Is there a trick to unsubscribing that anyone knows?

Christmas Stockings

I don't remember if I have shared these felt stockings I made. These were made before I was actively blogging so maybe you all haven't seen them yet. I have a Christmas craft book that had these patterns in it. I got ambitious one year and made them. The instructions have me making them all by hand, even the blanket stitching. Even though they are cute and all I did not make anymore after these two. We hang these up on our kids' bedroom door for Christmas.

Favorite Holiday Treats

Around this time of the year, I love to have two of my favorite holiday treats. We were introduced to Tim Tams by a friend of ours. You bite the ends and it acts as a straw then you stick it into your yummy Ghirardelli cocoa and sip the cocoa up through the ends of the Tim Tams. It's so yummy! You can go onto You Tube and search "Tim Tam Slam" and they have hilarious videos showing you how to eat it. My family uses cocoa since we don't drink coffee, but the videos have people using various hot drinks. We can only find Tim Tams at Target or the commissary, so if you haven't tried this yummy cookie, head on out and get some and give it a try. It's delicious! Be forewarned, it will melt in your hands if you don't pop it in your mouth quick enough.

Another thing I like during the holiday is pumpkin cheesecake. This cheesecake is so yummy, I don't know why I don't bake it year round. Wait, maybe because I will eat it all :-D

Time to Say Good Bye

It's been pretty quiet around here lately. It was a busy time for me prepping for the holiday fair which I just finished.
Right before we left to spend Thanksgiving with our family, hubby cleaned out the fish tank. Well, I guess our fish, Tiger, didn't like it. He died shortly after everything was all cleaned out for him. We've had Tiger for a few years and he survived everything including being chewed on by our cat, but clean water was just too much for him :(
Our son was sad about it, so they held him and I took this picture. Shortly afterwards, they went and buried him underneath our citrus tree. Poor little guy. He's helped bury quite a few of his pets. The hardest was when his cat died last year. We are not replacing anymore pets because it's emotionally draining when they pass away.

On a happier note, we had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Now it's time to prep for Christmas. We are almost done decorating our home. Our little guy wanted to help with the outside lights and the Christmas village so hubby is just waiting for him to have some free time so they can work on it together. I have to finish witsome Christmas sewing then it's time to take it easy for Christmas.

Holiday Towels

Christmas is creeping up on me. I haven't been able to get any holiday gifts sewing done at all due to working on my new site and sewing for the shop and a holiday fair this weekend. We were able to take a few days off to see family. We went to a gift shop and I saw these cute Christmas towels so I just had to take some pictures.

Jingle all the Way. This one the letters were fused onto the towel and machine embroidered.

The reindeer and snowman are done with felt and machine embroidered around the edges. They are all so cute.

It was fun to see all the holiday decorations. Hopefully I'll have some time after this weekend to start sewing some things for gift giving.

Dish Towels

Last weekend the ladies at church got together for Super Sat. to do some fun crafts. I wish I had brought my camera to take pictures of some of them. I signed up to do a cake plate but just didn't have time to go shop for the pieces so I will have to do that on my own at home. I taught the ladies how to make these dish towels. I had two samples, one with the ribbons and one with the rick racks. The rick racks were what they chose to do. I bought some fat quarter bundles for the ladies to choose from and matching rick racks. These are pretty easy to do. I am going to go buy some neutral/beige towels to make some for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Maybe I can make these for quick gifts too since the holidays are just creeping up on me.

I've been so busy getting ready for my children's school festival. I am so glad it's over. This is what my living room and dining area looked like.

Here's our living room. We set up a table to cut and sew. It was just a disaster. I am so glad to clean up and have things look normal again.

We used the GO baby to cut out a bunch of shapes to make hair accessories. I also have the BigShot with floral dies that I used. These machines were such a BIG help.

We are going to take a couple of days off to recover, then it's time to sew some more for some upcoming large holiday events. I'll share pictures soon.

Pumpkin Carving

Each year we take our kids to the pumpkin patch to pick out their pumpkins. We went really early this year and so we had to wait a long time to carve them. When we carved the pumpkins early one year, they all rotted before Halloween came around. We usually wait a couple of days before Halloween to carve them. Well, we finally carved our pumpkins. I put a bit of effort into mine this year.
It was fun :-D

Why.......

oh why do I have to be sick when I have a ton of sewing to do? Our son's school puts on an annual festival and I participated in it last year. This year I was going to skip it but then they decided not to charge for the space so I had to take them up on it since I have nothing to lose. Our kids like to walk around and play games and eat German food so we would be at the festival anyways. I am making small things to sell so I can use up scraps and small quantities of fabrics. I cut these up for 6 zip pouches. I am hoping I would have the energy to make at least 40-50 small items in addition to my handmade cards to sell so I can clear out some space. Gotta get back to sewing before my cold gets the best of me.

FNSI Finish

I would have uploaded this finish sooner, but my little guy hogged my computer playing his game. Last night as I was getting ready to sew the projects I had planned, we had unexpected company that stayed till after midnight so there goes all my sewing plans.

I did get my ruffled scarf done. This is so quick and easy to do. I think I am in love with knits. I'll have to go to CraftyVegasMom's blog later to see what the ladies finished.

Zip Pouch

It's been so hectic here at the Sherrod household lately. I am so glad it's Friday, I can actually take a break. I made this zip pouch to give to our daughter's friend. I placed some pleats on the front of the pouch. I really love the fabrics but I don't know the designer's info since the selvage was cut off or I would buy some more to make a tote bag.
Have a great weekend. We are going to pull out our Halloween stuff and decorate our house.

Holiday Inspirations

When we were in Valley Center, we were browsing through a gift shop. They have cute holiday decorations all over the shop. It's always jam packed with people on the weekends, but I manage to take a few pictures. Today I have some Thanksgiving pictures to share with you. I love all the fall decorations in this shop. Ok, I didn't buy anything either even though alot of the items on display are cute. I wouldn't know where to display them.

We took our kids to pick out their pumpkins a bit earlier than usual. This is what hubby found in the gift shop. I thought these mugs were hilarious, but I didn't buy them. They were just fun to look at.

Fresh Sewing Day Sept. Recap

Looking back, I really haven't finished alot of projects for Sept. Things have been hectic here and my sewing area is not finished yet. Hubby had to order a part for his electric paint gun to finish painting the furniture and a large wire rack. I should be able to move everything into the sewing area by Tuesday.

Quilted Trivet Tutorial

It's been a busy few days. This tutorial is a couple of days later than I had planned, but here it is all finished. I used the scraps I had leftover from the Indian Summer wallhanging I did for the Moda Bake Shop. This trivet is 10" square and it's a great way to use up some of your scraps.

Finished Size: 10" square

Supplies

Pinwheel Block

2 - 2 7/8" squares dark fabric

2 - 2 7/8" squares light fabric

1st Border: 2 - 1 1/2" x 4 1/2", 2 - 1 1/2" x 6 1/2" light fabrics

2nd Border: 16 - 2 1/2" squares, assorted dark fabrics

Binding: 1 - 2 1/4" strip light fabric

Backing: 14" square coordinating fabric

Instructions

1. Cut the pinwheel squares in half on the diagonal. Place one light and one dark triangle together and sew to make a half square triangle. Repeat for the remaining light and dark triangles. You will have 4 half square triangles.

2. Sew the half square triangles together to form a pinwheel block. See image below for placement. Press and trim if necessary.

3. Take the 1 1/2" x 4" 1st border strips and sew them to the left and right side of the pinwheel block. Press seams toward the borders. Take the 1 1/2" x 6 1/2" strips and sew them to the top and bottom of the pinwheel block. Press.

4. Sew 3 - 2 1/2" squares together to form the left an right side of the 2nd border strip.

5. Sew the above two rows to the left and right side of the pinwheel top. Press seams towards border.

6. Sew 5 - 2 1/2" squares together to form the top and bottom of the 2nd border strip.

7. Sew the above rows to the top and bottom of pinwheel top. Press seams towards border.

Square up the quilt top if necessary.

8. Layer quilt top, batting and backing together. Quilt as desired. Bind using your favorite binding method.

This is quick to put together and make a nice gift especially with the holidays coming up. Hope you've enjoyed my tutorial.

Indian Summer Wallhanging Tutorial

I have a tutorial to share with you today over at the Moda Bake Shop. I was hoping to get this pattern done months ago but due to my health, I wasn't able to. It was a challenge to try and concentrate on things when you're not feeling well for months on end. I am so glad it's finally done. I called this quilt a wallhanging but I am sure it would be equally wonderful as a table topper. On this quilt I used fabrics from the Perennials collection by Kansas Troubles.

Here's the close-up of the quilt top.

I apologize but the tutorial I was working on is not finished. We had some things come up and I haven't been able to get it done. I will have it ready in the next day or two so come on back and check it out. Great way to use up small pieces.

New Purse

I don't know if you would call it new, but to me it's new. This bag didn't look like this before. I wish I had taken a picture of it before I pulled it apart and started trimming it to this new size and look. It was larger and it didn't have the stability that I would like my bags to have so after staring at it for quite some time, I sat down and started un-sewing. After I was done, I didn't like the original button I had, so I changed out the button too. I am very happy how it turned out. This is a great bag to use up your small scraps. These fabrics were scraps leftover from my Thimbleberries project. Thinking of that, I don't know where I put it??? Do you know where I put it? LOL:-)

Taking a Leap

Heaven Sent

We decided to go to Heaven Sent to have some desserts. We had tasted their desserts a few years ago when we attended a holiday event so we decided to venture out and have a treat. They are quite pricey(ok, for me they are pricey) so this definitely was a treat. Every bite was so YUMMY!!!

They sell their cakes by the slice or whole is around $50. Hubby and our son each ordered a slice of this chocolate cake.

Our little guy wanted me to take a picture of his slice with a bite on the fork. He thought it would make a nice picture.

One of our daughter loves strawberries so she ordered a slice of this cake called Strawberry Fraise. It has whipped topping and I can taste some coconut flavoring in the filling.

I ordered this cherry parfait by mistake. Our little guy wanted this at first but changed his mind to the chocolate cake and I forgot so now we have an extra dessert.

Our daughter ordered this chocolate pistachio cupcake. I tasted the frosting and it was delicious.

This is my cupcake. It's got pomegranate frosting and I believe a pomegranate mousse filling. It was delicious. I haven't had a treat like this in months and I am sure it will be a long time before I eat another dessert.

San Diego Quilt Show

I thought I wouldn't be able to go to the San Diego Quilt Show but at the last minute I was able to go for a couple of hours. That was all I needed to be able to check out all the wonderful quilts on display and playing with some of the quilting machines. I bought a yard of oil cloth to make a beach bag, a yard of vintage fabric and an applique book from Kay MacKenzie. I bought it because I saw the beautiful teapot wallhanging she displayed which you will see in the slideshow.

Here are the pictures I took.

Edit: I had twice as many pictures but something happened when I created the slideshow and everything is out of order. I can't seem to access the other pictures on my computer to create a new slideshow and the photos get blurry when you click the full screen button for some reason. I'll have to look into it next time. I might have to sign up for a YouTube account. I've been trying to avoid it.

Lights Are Back On

The lights are back on tonight! I don't like power outages but before the lights came back on we went outside and we actually saw stars up in the sky and the moon is so nice and bright. We don't get to see alot of stars in the sky since the city lights pretty much drowns them out so it was wonderful to be able to stargaze for just a bit.
I was going to see the San Diego quilt show in the morning, but with the black out school is cancelled so I will be spending the day with our kiddos.

By now you've all probably heard about the black out here in Southern CA. We just got home and the power went out. We checked with our neighbors and friends called to make sure we're ok. I went to the store only to find out after I left that the power is out all of San Diego county, south Orange county and into Yuma, AZ. I tried to get home and everywhere traffic is congested. All the gas stations I passed were shut down and police personnel are out directing traffic. The news on the radio says that two major power lines were severed and we might not have power until late tonight or tomorrow. We are right in San Diego and doing ok. It's just pretty hot here.That's all I know for now.

Labor Day Activities

I am running behind on getting things ready for tomorrow (Friday). The weather has been so hot, I feel like I am going to melt and it brings on my headaches. Yesterday we went out to grab some dinner because it was just too hot to cook. Since I am running behind. I downloaded pictures of somethings we did over Labor Day weeekend. We had such a fun time going out to the country to hang out with our dear friends and do some fun activities.

We went to Lake Fulmor to use the canoe and swim in the lake. The grey rock is where people can jump off. It doesn't look high but it is. I would never ever jump off it, but I know some crazy people who do :-)

We also saw this little guy wandering around at the lake. Hubby fed him some bread.

On the last day, we had a bbq at the lake on our friends' estate. We had ribs, chicken, corn on the cob and among other wonderful dishes.

Before we head home, there's this sunset. It had these long cloudy streaks. Looks pretty cool.

Hubby and I are working hard to get things done for the reveal, but it won't be ready Friday as I had hoped. It's alot more work than we thought re-arranging my workspace.

Hometown Fabrics

Just a quick post today. It's been a busy summer. I am getting all sorts of new fabrics. It's so much fun! So many projects dancing in my head. This is a fat quarter bundle from the Hometown collection by Sweetwater. I love all the prints in this collection. I am thinking a bag, a quilt and maybe some small accessories. Can't wait to have time to make them.

Christmas Gift Box

I finally had some time early in the morning to put together this beautiful kit. It's a Christmas box and there was quite a bit of work involved. I just didn't like applying the glitter. After I was done assembling the box, I was supposed to use a spray adhesive to add the glitter to the box. I sprinkled a bit more than I should and now I still have bits of glitter on my arms. I do love the look of it all finished. I might just place some small items inside it to give for Christmas.

Pets On Quilts Show

Last year I participated in SewCalGal's Pets on Quilts Show and it was fun to see all the adorable pets that were entered. Last year it was our cat Molly, but this year Duchess was wanting to join in on the fun. Duchess was sound asleep on this table runner when I was taking her picture. I disturbed her when I pulled out the camera and she started to wake up. She did some stretching, stared at me for a bit, cleaned herself, then got comfy and went back to sleep.
We've had Duchess for 11 years now. She's very playful and loves to birdwatch. One day, she actually caught a bird by sticking her paw through a small opening in our security door and brought it inside our home. Our children saw what she did and rescued the bird before it ended up in her mouth. Poor bird was so disoriented, it kept hitting the wall as our children tried to get it to go outside. Thank goodness it survived and flew up into a tree in our backyard.

Some Sewing

I was able to get alot of sewing done this week. This is one of them. The other one I can't share yet. I made this skirt for our daughter. She chose this fabric and it's been sitting around for a few weeks. I am so glad I finally got it done. I did not use a pattern for this skirt. I used her body measurements and made the pattern.

Cinnamon Rolls

I think I've got my baking mojo back. This is the first time in quite a while that I've actually baked some goodies. While our kids were still sleeping, I went and made a batch of cinnamon rolls.

As you can see when they got up, they dove right into it. I had to remind the kiddos to save some for Dad.

I guess it was way past time to update my profile picture. The one I had was so old. Yesterday after we got home from church I asked hubby to help me take new pictures to replace my old one. We took a few and I guess this is the one I picked even though hubby did take some nice ones. This was taken in our backyard in front of one of the trees that was flowering.
I also used one of the pictures I took recently and changed out my blog header.

Did some cleaning up of my blog too. It was a bit cluttered before so I took out all the old sidebar pictures and created some new pages to keep things uncluttered.

On the creative front, I have some projects I would like to complete this week. Hopefully I will be able to finish them all.

Free Museum Day

Here in my area, every Tuesday the museums admit residents for free so we decided to go and take some pictures. We got to go see The Museum of Art and the Japanese Friendship Garden before they close. We got there a bit later than planned. Here's some pictures I took.

This is right in front of the botanical garden. We got there too late so they were closed. There's gorgeous flowers inside the garden. Will have to go see it next month. The pond has a bunch of koi and turtles in it.

Pillowcases

I managed to squeeze in some sewing time to finish these pillowcases for Carol when my children were watching a movie. I have my sewing cabinet set up behind our couch in the family room so I can sort of watch along as I sew. I think this arrangement is working out pretty good because I've been able to just sit and sew more than I usually do.

I finished sewing the bottom and side seams together and left them on my ironing board to come back and press them so I can do finish the cuff.

Here are the pillowcases. I made 6 of them. I just bought 1 yard of each print so I can make 2 pillowcases out of 2 yards of fabric. I'll make a tutorial to share after I finish my SIL's bag.

Burp Cloths

I had every intention of making a zip pouch to go with the bag but I ran out of time, so these burp cloths were added to the gift bag instead. They were just really easy to make. I just cut a strip of fabric big enough to cover the center and topstitched it down.

Now I am off to make the patriotic pillowcases.

Sewing Projects

I have some projects that needs to be done. I didn't have fabrics I needed so I went fabric shopping.

I bought these patriotic prints to make pillows to mail to Carol of Brown Quilts. She's collecting them to donate to our military men and women.

These purple fabrics are a bag for my sister-in-law. It took months for me to find decent purple prints for her bag. I don't think I will use the bird print, but it was pretty so I bought it to make something for me. I don't have any purple bags.

I will use 4 of these prints to make a diaper bag for a baby shower gift for a friend's daughter. I am a couple of weeks late, but it couldn't be helped.

I will share as I get them done.

Thimbleberries Snowflake Tabe Runner

I took a little break to go hang out with my family in our backyard. When we were finished and got back inside our home, I continued sewing while the kiddos went to get ready for bed. I got most of the top done. At first I wasn't going to applique the snowflakes on but as I look at the table runner, I thought it needs some snowflakes. I'll have to work on that at another time. So glad I joined Barb and Sandi's Thimbleberries Sew Day. It sure helped motivate me to get some of my Thimbleberries projects done.

I saw this badge over at Sandi's blog so I thought I would join in. I have some Thimbleberries kits I need to finish up.

These are fabrics for the Snowflake Tablerunner that I am going to make. I am going to skip the appliqued snowflakes on this one.

Here are my fabrics all cut up and ready to sew. I probably won't be able to finish it tonight since we will be having some yummy desserts around the campfire later. You never know. This pattern is pretty easy so it might just be finished tonight.

Stepping Down

Today I am sad to announce that I am stepping down from Tuesday Throwdown. I started this challenge to connect to stampers and have fun, but due to my health I have to step down. My awesome DT has taken over to keep the challenge going. I am on doctor's and hubby's orders to relax and have fun so I can get better.

A New Dress

It's the end of the school year and our daughter is graduating from middle school. She asked me to make a dress for her so after a couple of days it's done. It normally doesn't take me long to make clothing but lately I get tired easily so I had to cut one day and sew the next. Now we'll have to go shopping to buy a little cropped type of sweater to go over it. She will be wearing it for the graduation then the dinner cruise in the evening. Can't wait for school to be out so I can get some much needed rest.

Thanks for your comments and e-mails regarding acid reflux! It's a big help.

I have a couple of things I would like to get done this month. These will be my Charming Girls Quilt Club goals. This is fabric for a dress I need to make for our daughter. I was going to show what the dress will look like when done but at the moment I've miss placed the pattern. I really need to find it or I will have to go and buy another one.

These fabrics I am going to make a large bag as a gift for my friends daughter. There are no patterns for this. We went to a baby shower and she loved the bag she saw and said it would be great for her daughter so I drew up a rough sketch so I have some visual reference. This will be my gift to her daughter.

I think this is pretty much all the sewing I will be able to get done this month that I can share. I have some more projects that needs finishing but can show you yet.

Let's Talk About Acid Reflux

I have been doing alot of research on acid reflux, what to eat and what not to eat. There's not that many recipes out there and when I find some, it's sort of mixed up with things one should not eat. Some sites say to try different foods and see if it gives one heartburn then there's people I know that have it and they eat everything in site thanks to Prilosec. In our family we try to take care of the problem naturally unless medication is absolutely necessary hence the purple pill (Nexium). I have read that this condition can be controlled and go away. My question is for those of you out there who have this condition what works for you and do you have recipes you can share with us? It really stinks because it seems there's not much a person with this condition can eat. Although a turkey burger, no tomatoes on whole wheat toast sounds pretty good, skip the fatty mayo, ketchup, pickles:-(.

It's been a while since I've shared anything sewing related. I haven't been able to get much sewing done. These were a couple of hats I made a few weeks back but haven't gotten around to sharing. These are quick and easy to make. One is going to my niece and the other one I will probably keep for me.

I have to get a couple things sewn so will share those when they're done.

Today I have created a card for our weekly challenge over at Tuesday Throwdown. The challenge this week is to create a card incorporating an animal image. I am using this cute elephant digi stamp from Robyn's Fetish. I used grey paper this time instead of coloring then cut out the image and used 3-d tape to pop it up. It's Tuesday Throwdown time! This week the challenge is to make your own embellishments (DIY). MyGrafico is sponsoring this week and gave us a beautiful digital stamp set to use. The sentiment came with it so I used that as the main focus and then I printed the flowers twice and cut them out. I also cut where the petals connect then curled the edges to give it some dimension.
